Membership FAQs

Beginning July 1, 2018, all alumni will be considered general members of the Alumni Association. Alumni and supporters who make a gift through membership will be sustaining members of the Alumni Association. Sustaining membership is considered annual tax-deductible annual gift.

Membership Program Change

Why did the UAAA change from a dues-paying membership program to a sustaining membership program?

The UAAA has been researching best practices for making membership a gift for several years. After much review and research, the UAAA decided make membership a tax-deductible annual gift. By making membership a gift, our organization and its members can help support university students, projects and priorities including engagement and philanthropy goals while increasing alumni giving rates.

Why are all graduates now considered general members?

All alumni, Wildcats for Life, will be considered general members of the UAAA. This will expand the footprint of alumni membership by recognizing our 290,000 UA alumni as members. The UAAA can now offer all-alumni benefits and discounts to the entire alumni population. (Refer to the membership chart in your packet for a breakdown of benefits and discounts for each type of member.)

Why is sustaining membership important?

Annual sustaining member gifts will help support alumni programs and services while increasing alumni engagement at the UA. Engaged alumni make the university stronger through their networks and leadership and by creating a connected base of brand ambassadors, advocates and volunteers.
